Basic Operation

This product is an LM335Z precision temperature sensitive zener with wires attached and mounted to make it easy to mount and connect to.

Typically a thermistor is used to measure temperature. Unfortunately these are very non-linear and typically have enormous errors when operated far from their 25 Deg C ratings. At least 50 % measurement errors are not the least bit uncommon.

If an error of this magnitude is controlling the charge on the battery when faced with large temperature variations, proper temperature compensation is impossible.

The LM335Z is accurate to 2 % over the entire temperature range. When connected to Solar Converters Inc. products a true temperaure measurements results over the full temperature range in true temperature compensation.
